Acquired with support from the National Heritage Fund as part of the Armada Portrait Project.
In 2016 the iconic Armada Portrait of Queen Elizabeth I, commemorating the failed invasion of England by the Spanish Armada, was bought for the nation by Royal Museums Greenwich. The painting is on permanent display in the Queen's Presence Chamber in the Queen's House, on the site of the original Greenwich Palace, which was the birthplace of Queen Elizabeth I.
Commissioned by Royal Museums Greenwich, Susan Derges created Mortal Moon, a series of four photographs, in response to the Armada Portrait. We are delighted to announce that two works from this series are now in the collection of Royal Museums Greenwich.
