Over the last seven years Santeri Tuori has spent much time on the remote island of Kokar in the Aland archipelago making The Forest Series, photographing the same place, from the same spot, over and over again at different times and seasons, sometimes years apart. Multiple images are then superimposed. Tuori's recent Sky Series, taken over a period of a year, focus solely on the sky as a subject in its own right. Black and white and colour photographs are layered with resultant images seeming to be on the border of painting and photography - allowing the viewer total immersion in skyscapes of great depth and luminosity.
Santeri Tuori (born 1970, Finland) studied at Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture, Helsinki. Solo exhibitions of his work have been held at the Malmo Art Museum and the Haninge Konstal, Sweden; and the Espoo Museum of Modern Art in Finland. He has participated in many international museum shows including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Helsinki and the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Videos and photographs are included in many public collections.
