Purdy Hicks is pleased to present a new exhibition of paintings by Irish artist David Quinn.
'Although they look like paintings, I see my pieces both as drawings and objects. It's as important to me how they look from the side as from the front. The quality of the surface is also crucial. When I am happy with how the different elements work together then the piece is finished.
The thing that inspires me most is the work of other artists. My favourites are probably Ad Reinhardt, Agnes Martin, Jan Schoonhoven and James Castle. I also love Berber rugs, old book covers and Japanese aesthetics.
This exhibition is titled 'Stookeen' after the hill I walk most days with our dog 'Mr. Clancy'.'
