Pat Harris

Pat Harris (born 1953, Dublin) is regarded as one of Ireland's leading figurative painters. His early work was based on the human form, but more recently he has turned to still life and landscape.

There is an apparent simplicity in his work as a result of his choice of subject, a single object or a few flowers, and the freshness of his paintwork and subtle colour changes. His flowers may appear to stand still and alone, but are very much alive. The objects in his paintings may all stand upright on the same ground, against the same wall, with the same light, but each of them leaves a different shadow on the wall, a different impression on the object's surroundings. All share an origin in the purplish shadows at the bottom of the painting, where gravity and light hold them in their allotted places. They do not stay there, they strain at their edges, and attempt to float away.
